Homeless Contribution Tax Credit (HCTC)
The Colorado Homeless Contribution Income Tax Credit provides a state income tax credit to Colorado taxpayers who contribute to eligible homelessness-related projects within Colorado.
Created by Colorado House Bill 2022 – 1083 (HB22-1083), HCTC replaces the Enterprise Zone Tax Credit previously available for donations to approved homeless support organizations.
Amount of tax credit:
- Monetary contributions must be equal to or greater than $100 for the entire tax year.
- Tax credit equals 25% of a donation
- Amount credited to each donor cannot exceed $100,000 per tax year.
- In-kind contributions must be $5,000 or more as evaluated by a third party on the date of donation.
- In-kind contributions include property, services, stocks, bonds, or other intangible property.
A donor’s full Social Security Number must be provided in order for a tax credit certificate to be issued. The Social Security Number and other personal information is used by the Department of Revenue to verify identity. Colorado statute (C.R.S. 39-22-548) requires the taxpayer’s full Social Security Number and other personal identifying information to be included on the tax credit certificate. A CO Tax ID is not an acceptable replacement for the Social Security Number on the certificate. All personal information is stored in a secure database. Donations must be made directly to the Non-Profit and not through a 3rd party vendor.
Please email Lili Avalos at (Lili.Avalos@posadapueblo.org) or call (719 545 8776 Ext. #5) if you have any questions; or you may find more detailed information at the Colorado DOLA (HCTC) website at the following link https://cdola.colorado.gov/ hctc. When requesting this Tax Credit, please provide on your donation; your email and a note that you would like your donation to be considered for the Tax Credit and I will reach out to you on what is needed for me to process this credit.
